A cool way to refresh a hot summer: Cold brew!

Summer is in full swing, the heat wave is out in full force across the country and many of you are probably taking a break from the hot drinks in search of something a little more refreshing.

For starters — Cold Brew is the process of leaching flavor from the beans directing using water produces a chemical profile different from conventional brewing methods. Coffee is steeped over 12–15 hours, a slow brewing method and ultimately creates fuller-bodied, sweeter and less acidic flavor profile.

AND No — Cold brew is not just hot coffee poured over ice. It’s totally different. Cold brew involves slow-steeping coffee beans before straining them out.

So Here’s How To Do It With A French Press:

  1. Grind 54 grams (3.6 tablespoons) of coffee beans and place in a large (8-cup) French press. In our humble opinion, the freshly roasted within 14 days,.
    (pss..
Sumato Espresso Blend beans seem to work the best… no bias here)
  2. Add 800 ml (~ 3.4 cups) of filtered water at any temperature.
  3. Stir the grinds into the water.
  4. Place the French press plunger on top and store in the fridge for 12 hours.

5) Carefully press down on the plunger to push all the grounds to the bottom

(Bonus Step: You can sell a small cup to your neighbor for $5 and they can skip the Mermaid)

Pro Tip: Do a coarse grind — Coffee that is too finely ground will over extract and make your coffee taste bitter. Also — coffee is not like wine. Do not steep in the fridge for too long. We recommend no longer than 12 hours. — Ben Martinez, founder, Sumato Coffee
